In the Stillness

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

1 Kings 19:11‭-‬12 KJV

Sometimes, that still small voice can only be heard when God puts us in a place of complete silence. He takes away all the things that create noise, distractions and hinderances in our lives so that we can hear his voice CLEARLY.

It's not always going to be in the great, blessed and wonderful times of our lives that God is going to speak to us in a deep way. It's going to be in the times where he sets us apart from the world, where we can get in tune with what he's saying to us. He's not SETTING US ASIDE, he's SETTING US APART. He hasn't forgotten about you. He hasn't forgotten his promises to you.

Sometimes he has to take away to increase. He has to break us in order to give us our breakTHROUGH. He has to separate us to draw us near to him. He has to take us through the fire to bring us out purified for his use.

Today, let's not look at trials as some negative thing that's just happening by chance. Look at them as something God is taking you through to make you into the vessel he needs you to be in order for his purpose to be accomplished in your life. Ask him, "God, what do you need me to learn from this? What are you trying to tell me through this? What would you have me to do?"

It's not always comfortable when God gets our attention, but it most definitely has a purpose. His plans for us far outweigh our own. We may not always understand but we do have to trust him. He's our Father and he knows what's best for us.

In your prayer time, instead of asking, try just listening for that still, small voice. After all, he already knows what we have need of before we even ask. He wants and needs to speak things into our spirit. Listen for him. He'll be right there in those silent moments and he'll speak life where we thought all was lost.
