Always Wear Your Crown

This post has longer passages of scripture than my usual posts, bear with me. I'm going somewhere lol.

Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats. And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily. And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.

1 Samuel 24:2‭-‬6 KJV

So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him. Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time. And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless? David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish. The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

1 Samuel 26:7‭-‬11 KJV

Not once but twice David had the opportunity to take out his greatest foe. Yet, he left the battle in God's hands. He kept his heart and his hands clean. He didn't allow himself to fall prey to the temptations of his enemy. He didn't allow himself the fleshly satisfaction of "getting back" at the one who had caused his life so much turmoil. He stayed true to his high calling in God. No matter how his enemy attacked, ridiculed and belittled him, he stayed the course. Can you imagine how David must have struggled to keep a clean heart? All the attacks that were coming his way were from a man he once loved, adored, trusted and looked up to. King Saul sought him out to kill and destroy him relentlessly.

David had a choice. He had a choice to focus on the battle. He had a choice to fall prey to the temptation of taking out his enemy and losing the anointing on his life. He had the choice to forfeit his throne for a temporary moment of victory in the flesh. Instead, he chose to wear his crown. Even before he was crowned King. He knew and walked by faith and ultimate trust in God. He walked in confidence, knowing what God had promised to him and called him to become.

Of course, we are GOING to have times in our lives where the enemy wants to come in and take everything that we've worked so hard to gain in our walk with God. It is up to US to choose.

It's up to us to take our hands off of what we've already laid on the altar in prayer. It's up to us to always wear our crown of victory, even in the heat of the battle. It's up to us to overcome evil with good. It's up to us to keep our hearts and hands clean.

Yes, we will have battle scars. Yes, we will at times get weary from the struggle, but God is with us in every step. He goes before us and fights the battle FOR us. It may not seem like we're walking in victory at times, but when we keep ourselves free from the traps of sin the devil sends to trip us up, we WILL see victory. Free and clear victory!

No matter what you may be facing today, walk through it with King Jesus. Don't forfeit all God wants to do in and through you for a moment of temporary satisfaction in the flesh. It is the King of Kings who has the FINAL say so. It is HE who goes before us to fight EVERY battle.

Stay the course. Fight the good fight of faith. Keep your heart, mind and hands clean and pure. That is the ONLY way for God to use us in the capacity he so desires to. It's in those seasons of waiting in the wilderness, that we will win our greatest victories with God. No, the wait isn't easy, but it will ALWAYS be worth it.
